A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James

Simone St. James is the queen of writing supernatural thrillers. This one is told from three siblings’ points of view, and them going back to their home where their brother mysteriously disappeared years ago. It’s time to find out what really happened to him. While reading this, we get snippets about each of the siblings’ lives and how they interconnect, along with how their upbringing led them to where they are now. Their interactions could be humorous, and it was interesting how they each knew a reveal or found something out in a unique way that brought the story to justice. You’ll get the perfect amount of creepiness from this story! If you’ve read any Simone St. James book, you’ll find a ton of Easter eggs and nods to her other books in this one, especially since this one takes place in the same town as the Sundown Motel! Such a fun read that I didn’t want to put down!

The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst

Sarah Beth Durst is such a skillful writer. The Enchanted Greenhouse is a return to the world introduced in The Spellshop, but is a standalone novel. This is the story of Terlu Perna, the Librarian who created a sentient plant out of loneliness. As punishment, she is turned into a statue and displayed in the Library she worked in. Next, she awakens, freezing in the snow, hungry, and confused. She was brought to an island and awoken by a very grumpy gardener. The island is full of failing enchanted greenhouses. Terlu agrees to help the gardener and a sentient rose save the greenhouses. The coziest of cozy books! Terlu is such a lovely character! We have another winged cat, flying mini dragons, a strong and silent baking gardener, and lots of plants! Durst had me hanging on every word.

Abby Jimenez tackles two topics we don’t see a lot in romance: long-distance relationships with tangible obstacles, and the harsh realities of caregiving for someone with dementia. Anyone who’s experienced either situation will resonate deeply with Xavier and Samantha’s struggles. So beautiful.

The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica

Dread-inducing. Bazterrica knows how to craft a story that keeps you on edge. Her narrators are always so untrustworthy, leaving the reader unsure what information is being withheld and what information is only half-true. This horror novel, featuring cultish nuns in the midst of a post-climate apocalypse, leaves a lot to reflect on.
